Job Description Job Description The Logistics and Shipping
Manager is responsible for proactively managing the yard, shipping,
and logistical movement of product to the customer to ensure
on-time delivery, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.
Supervises the activities of employees responsible for storing
product, preparing product for shipment, coordinating shipments
according to ship dates, and shipping product on-time including the
loading of trucks in a safe manner. Confirms proper resources are
in place to handle fluctuations in shipping demand. Coordinates
with Customer Service Project Specialist, Production Planning,
Plant Management and ASWP Customer to ensure on-time delivery and
customer satisfaction, sets up, maintains, and repairs systems,
apparatus, and components of industrial machinery and equipment
associated with the production and fabrication of pipe and pipe
components by performing the following duties. Create and maintain
work procedures, work schedules, and shipping schedules in
accordance with JDE scheduled pick dates. Monitor customer shipping
schedule, confer with Plant Management, Production Planning,
Traffic, Customer Service, and Customer to establish shipping
schedules. Monitor operations to proactively address work orders
that are in danger of being late and communicate to all
stakeholders. Create and maintain Shipping Diagrams and Best
Practices to ensure loads are safe. Manage rail activities, inbound
and out; ensures zero detention for cars and safe handling of cars.
Issue written and oral instructions; assign duties in conformance
to policies, procedures, and work orders. Liaise and negotiate with
internal and external customers to include, but not limited to:
Managers, Team Leaders, Operations, Trucking/Traffic, Production
Planning, and Customer Service personnel. Track and report quality,
quantity, stock levels, delivery times, transportation costs, and
efficiencies. Monitor and report costs, productivity, downtime, and
accuracy through daily reporting. Maintain metrics and analyze data
to assess performance; strategize and implement improvement
measures. Maintain cooperation among employees and resolves
personnel issues; involves Human Resources as appropriate. Confer
with other Production Planning, Managers, and Team Leaders to
ensure coordination of Shipping and Logistical activities. Identify
employees' skills; develop employees through coaching and
counseling on a regular basis. Conduct performance reviews and
provide continuous feedback (positive and challenges). Completes
Accident/Incident investigations as required. Participates in light
travel activities (i.e., training, job site visits, etc.). Reads
and understands project specifications; applies fundamental
principles of project management. Performs other duties as assigned
by management. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be physically able to
perform the essential functions of the job, with or without
reasonable accommodations. Must be able to read, analyze, and
interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,
technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write
reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Must be
able to effectively present information and respond to questions
from groups of managers, employees, government, and industry
representatives. Must be able to read and interpret documents such
as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and
procedure manuals Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and
divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions, and decimals. Must be able to compute ratio and percent
and to interpret bar graphs. Must be able to calculate figures and
amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area,
circumference, and volume. Must be able to apply concepts of basic
algebra and geometry. Must be able to define problems, collect
data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be able to
interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in
mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and
concrete variables. Must be able to solve practical problems and
deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only
limited standardization exists. Must be able to interpret a variety
of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule
form. Must have knowledge of MS Word; especially be able to
navigate Excel spreadsheets and Power Point as well as substantial
use of JD Edwards ERP business system. Must be able interact with
employees at all levels, including effectively communicating
expectations, conflict resolution, and influencing change. Must be
able communicate effectively with customers regarding their
shipments and handle difficult situations in a business like and
customer centric manner. Must be able work independently and handle
multiple functions and projects concurrently and to lead and manage
a staff. Must be able respond to customer issues after normal
business hours. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
preferred, or two to four years demonstrated experience using
formal problem-solving techniques. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS The
employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or
feel, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit.
The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The
employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and
occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision, distance
vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
