Job Description:
At Houston Methodist, the Nursing Professional Development
Leader II (PDL II) position is a specialist role, as evidenced by
experience, credentials, and performance. The Nursing Professional
Development (NPD) practitioner influences the professional practice
of nursing, and other healthcare learners, to create a positive
impact on the patients and families served, as well as overall
population health. The PDL II primarily practices in the hospital
central department, or learning environment, with emphasis on core
hospital-based programs impacting a variety of nursing and
interdisciplinary learners. In addition to performing the essential
functions of the PDL I role, the PDL II engages in strategic
thinking, leadership, program oversight, and coordination of
nursing professional initiatives to advance entity and system goals
and the NPD profession. This position contributes across the entity
and HM system and serves as a mentor and resource to RN staff, as
well as other NPD practitioners. FLSA STATUS Exempt QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree, one from an
accredited School of Nursing Master‘s degree in education field
preferred EXPERIENCE Six years clinical nursing experience with two
years in a primary nursing professional development role LICENSES
AND CERTIFICATIONS Required RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State
Licensure - Texas Board of Nursing_PSV Compact Licensure – Must
obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing
Texas residency) and BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) -
American Heart Association and NPD-BC - Nursing Professional
Development (ANCC) - American Nurses Credentialing Center_PSV
Current incumbents have two years from job description
implementation to obtain NPD-BC within 1 year Preferred ACLS -
Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA) and PALS -
Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Instructor (AHA) KNOWLEDGE AND

FUNCTIONS PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Creates, leads, and/or engages
in initiatives to advance professional learning and meet
organizational or system-level goals. Provides critical insight
into program design and evaluation for role transitions, clinical
ladder advancement, professional certification, and excellence
recognition programs. Builds strategic, collaborative partnerships
with internal and external stakeholders to advance HM mission and
goals. Beyond interdisciplinary shared governance and HM system
partners, seeks relationships in areas such as academia,
professional organizations, and the broader community. Provides
strategies to achieve department, entity, and system goals,
including peer-to-peer accountability for employee engagement.
Leads through influence as an advocate, role model, mentor, and
change agent. Communicates effectively with learners and
collaborative partners in both the learning and practice
environments. SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Leads entity and system
groups in the educational process through completion of an
assessment, identification of practice gaps (including lack of
knowledge, skill, or inability to translate knowledge into
practice), identification of desired outcomes, planning,
facilitation of learning, and an evaluation. Designs programs
utilizing innovative strategies to facilitate learning, including
delivery methods beyond the classroom setting (e.g., virtual), and
incorporates continuing education credit, as applicable. Leads
strategic action planning through analyzing needs assessments,
learning activity evaluations and system or entity metrics.
Considers system and hospital priorities and forecasts needs for
future program design and professional development initiatives.
Designs and builds curriculum in programs which may include
orientation, practice transition, and role development.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Leads and facilitates quality
improvement initiatives, as identified through assessment data and
knowledge of key quality indicators. Collaborate with stakeholders
to synthesize, analyze, and prioritize patient quality and/or
patient satisfaction opportunities and create an action plan
utilizing performance improvement methods/tools. Engages in the
dissemination of outcomes. Serves as a consultant to enhance the
quality and safety of practice. Develops and leads initial and/or
ongoing competency assessments, utilizing a variety of validation
methods, and guided by applicable policies, procedures, standards
and evidence. Ensures activity/program integrity by incorporating
evidence-based practices, change management principles and current
educational theory in designing programs/services. Synthesizes data
to guide decision-making in nursing professional development
practice and demonstrate activity impact. Serves as an NPD content
expert. FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Develops and manages programs,
within the approved budget and analyzes cost effectiveness and
return on investment. Appropriately allocates and utilizes
resources. Role models and drives time and resources efficiently.
Implements innovative solutions to achieve organizational
objectives that lead to a positive fiscal impact. GROWTH/INNOVATION
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Leads a spirit of inquiry through staff
guidance in inquiry project development, execution, and
dissemination (abstracts, posters, and presentations). Develops
proposals for new programs, projects, inquiry, innovation, teaching
strategies and/or learning methodologies to enhance learning and
positively impact patient care. Completes and updates My
Development plan (MDP) on an ongoing basis. Shares knowledge with
